Hair Care Tips

Every hair product that you purchase from Godiva's Secret will include "Secret Tips, Hair Care & How-Tos For Hair". This brochure answers all the questions we're asked on a regular basis.
Below are some terrific synthetic hair tips:

  • We recommend you use a different brush than the one you use on your own hair, because your regular hairbrush will have oils and dirt on it. This will keep your wig cleaner longer.

  • If you wear a wig every day, wash and condition it about once every two weeks to maintain a fresh, pleasant odor.

  • Always wash your wig in cold water only - never hot! Cold water will help retain the style of the wig. And, never brush a wig or hairpiece when it's wet. You will pull the curl or wave out of its style.

  • Many women dye their hair to match their hairpiece. Simply take the piece to your hairdresser and show her the color you want to have. Suggest that she keep a record of the formula she used for the future.

  • If you're having chemotherapy treatment and your scalp is sensitive when you wear your wig, know that tingling and sensitivity is normally due to your treatment. Here are some ideas that help: Use a cotton wig cap under the wig or cut up an old silk or cotton scarf and tack it inside the wig.

  • Remember, your synthetic piece is heat-sensitive - don't leave it in a hot car or trunk, and use caution when baking or barbequing

  • Never use regular hairspray on synthetic hair. The alcohol content will eventually cause "cotton candy" hair. Instead, choose a low or no-alcohol hairspray, and use it sparingly.

  • New wig wearers can build up their confidence by wearing their new hair running errands, going to the mall or marketing. You will realize that you really do blend in with everyone else.

  • Most women have many different colors in their hair. The front may be lighter, underneath darker and so on. Prepare your hair the way you would wear the piece to see exactly what shades of your hair color show and which color to purchase.
